ABOUT ME

weston.jpg

Im a self-taught painter and sculptor, based in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, UK. Originally from California,  I started my artistic explorations whilst living in Winston- Salem North Carolina, where I eventually taught at the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts .

My paintings are about memory, of places an how the landscape around me affected me and imprinted those images in my mind. My work doesn't represent an exact representation of a place, but rather reflects the emotional and physical effect that it has had on me, and the act of painting allows me to bring those feelings back to mind.

My sculptural work is related, but different. I am a gatherer of interesting junk, and find it inspires my imagination. My assemblages are made from reclaimed metal, stone and wood that I find along my way. Often objects suggest to me what they want to be, and I enjoy finding stories in their combined shapes.
